How can we help?

Quick fixes for the most common questions, and a direct line to the developer if you need it.

Getting started

Install and run your first rebuild

Add to Chrome

Open the Chrome Web Store page and click Add to Chrome.

Pin the icon

Click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome's toolbar, then the pin next to Swarm Rebuild.

Open any site

Any normal website works. Try a news site, a portfolio or a shop.

Start the swarm

Click the icon or press Alt+Shift+S. Press Esc to exit.

Troubleshooting

Common problems

I click the icon and nothing happens
  1. Reload the page (F5) and click the icon again.
  2. Make sure you're on a normal website, not a chrome:// page, the Web Store or a PDF.
  3. Open chrome://extensions, check that Swarm Rebuild is turned on, and click the reload ↻ button on it.
The icon shows a red ×

Chrome doesn't allow any extension to run on that page (for example chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store or the built-in PDF viewer). Open a normal website and try again.

There's no sound
  • If the toolbar says Tap for sound, click anywhere on the page once. Chrome only allows sound after you interact with a page.
  • Press M or click the 🔇 button to unmute.
  • Check that the browser tab and your device aren't muted.
Alt+Shift+S doesn't work

Another app or extension may use the same shortcut. Open chrome://extensions/shortcuts, find Swarm Rebuild and set any shortcut you like.

The rebuild doesn't look exactly like the page

It's a visual rebuild made for fun. Animations pause while the swarm works, some decorative effects are simplified, and videos, canvases or embedded frames far below the first screen appear as placeholders. Very long pages are rebuilt up to about 40,000 pixels.

The page doesn't scroll during the rebuild

Swarm Rebuild follows the main page scroll. Some web apps scroll inside a panel instead of the page; on those, use the mouse wheel over the page or turn on Tour.

How do I get back to the real page?

Click Go live when it finishes, press Esc at any time, click ✕ in the toolbar, or click the extension icon again.

How do I remove the extension?

Right-click the Swarm Rebuild icon and choose Remove from Chrome, or remove it from chrome://extensions. All of its local settings are deleted with it.
